1) One has to sit on a multi-coloured woollen blanket when doing all prayers.
2) Keep a copper lota with a small copper spoon filled with fresh water.
3) Internal Cleansing
Take a spoon of water and pour it into your right palm, recite the first mantra and drink the water. Continue with this practice twice reciting the next two mantras respectively.
Consume the water without touching your lips.
*Idam Keshavaye Namah
*Idam Madhavaye Namah
*Idam Narayanaye Namah
4) External Cleansing
Take another spoonful of water and wash your hands reciting the following mantra
*Idam Vishnuveye Namah
Thereafter take water three times in your left palm and sprinkle the water all over your body with your middle and ring finger of your right hand while uttering the following mantra.
*Om Aa Pavithra, Pavithro Va Sarvaasthang Gathoaapiva,
Yah Asmreth Pundari Kaaksha, Sa Bhya Bhyanthar Suchi Pundari Kaaksha Punaathu
5) Lighting of Luxmi Diya
Using pure cotton wool, roll a wick to place in diya. Fill the diya using pure butter ghee.
Morning prayer should be done with the wick lit facing east. Once all have completed the prayer for the morning, the wick of the diya should be turned to rest facing north.
Evening prayer should be done with the wick lit facing west. Once all have completed the prayer for the evening, the wick of the diya should be turned to rest facing north.
6) Proceed with prescribe prayers.
7) Once you have completed your prayers, pick up the front portion of the blanket whilst seated and drop a copper teaspoon full of water under the lifted area. Replace the spoon in the copper lota. Thereafter use your right ring finger to touch the water that is dropped to put a tika (dot) on your forehead, touch your right eyelid, left eyelid and throat. You are now ready to leave the designated prayer area.
